Overview of Our Services

Life's a Trip!

Life's a Trip originated from an idea to provide travel companion/assistant services for seniors and others who require or desire a little assistance in order to travel and/or participate in recreational, family and community based opportunities. We have since expanded our idea to include recreational companions, a senior "check-in" service and our vehicle delivery service known as our "Southbound Taxi Service".

All of our services are provided with integrity, enthusiasm, compassion and respect and our main focus is on helping people keep the joy of living alive, despite age or any disability.

Vehicle Delivery Service (Southbound Taxi)

Many people enjoy spending their winters in warmer climates and enjoy having their own personal vehicle with them. As highway congestion continues to grow and with some of the challenges that come with age, many people prefer to let someone else bring their vehicle to and from their southern destination. We offer a vehicle delivery service, where-by our experienced, carefully screened, competent and safe drivers deliver your vehicle to your southern destination for you. We have all the necessary paperwork in place to ensure a smooth border crossing and will deliver your vehicle, right to your door. Unlike any other company, our customers are welcome to make the journey in their own vehicle, with our driver. In addition, we don't put strangers in our customers vehicle, all of our drivers are company people. See our separate Southbound Taxi website for more detailed information.

Tour Guides

Life's a Trip is delighted to have the opportunity to offer a tour guide service for people traveling to one of Canada's most picturesque locations - Central Ontario. We can provide well informed guides who will make your visit to Simcoe County, the Muskoka's, Parry Sound or the Haliburton area an informative, educational, interactive and joyful experience.

On our tours, you'll learn about the natives who inhabited the area; the effect that the Canadian Shield topography had on the development of Muskoka (and sometimes the lack thereof). We'll tell you about the wildlife in the area (yes we have bears, lizards and snakes, bunnies, owls, turtles, and many others critters too!). We'll take you by some of the historic Inns in the area and will tell you about their history. We will take you to see some of the boathouses that Muskoka is known for all over the world and if we're lucky, we might even run into some famous movie stars or hockey players that own some of those properties.

We've come to know these areas quite well and look forward to the opportunity to show you the best of the best that Central Ontario has to offer. Don't hesitate to check out our Useful Resources page to get a heads-up of what there is to do and see in while you visit the area but please let us be your guide. We guarantee an experience you won't soon forget!

Recreational Companions and Chaperones

Our Recreational Companion program is designed to help people keep the joy of living alive despite any decline in health. Our recreational companions are enthusiastic, compassionate, fun-loving individuals who are committed to providing our customers with the undivided attention and assistance they require in order to fully participate, and enjoy, the activities they wish to engage in. We have recreational companions who are eager to accompany people to the movies, for walks in the park, to family events, weddings, funerals, baseball games, whatever one's heart desires. If you can imagine it, we can provide the assistance you require in order to do it! See our Recreational Companions section for more information.

Senior Watch Program

Our senior checks service is designed to provide peace of mind to people who live outside of the Simcoe/Muskoka region but have parents or other elderly or disabled loved-ones who live in this area. At your request, and with the other party's permission, we will visit your distant family member on a given day, at a given time and will provide you with a report on their state of well-being. WE DO NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS but we work with you to develop an objective assessment form that is relevant to your loved-one's situation and provides you with meaningful information that will help you to monitor their abilities and needs. See our Senior Checks section for more information.

Travel Assistants

We offer travel companion services for seniors and other people who require or desire assistance in order to travel. Our travel assistants are seasoned, enthusiastic, caring and responsible men and women who are capable of providing the precise type of assistance you require. We conduct a thorough assessment of your needs which allows us to inform and train your companion in order to best meet those needs. All of our companions are trained in first aid and CPR and we do have some companions who have additional certification as well, (such as nurses, personal support workers, developmental service workers, physiotherapy assistants). We have companions available who have engaged in every form of travel imaginable. We have people who've camped out in some of the most remote places, we have people who are experts in particular types of travel, we even have a former airline pilot who is most interested in meeting the needs of seniors travelers. See our Travel Assistants section for more information.

Our Staff

We value our staff as much as we value our customers. We take the time to get to know our staff and offer service opportunities only to those individuals who have the emotional and physical energy available to truly give to our customers. We set limits on the number of times our staff travel as companions and also set limits as to how many hours they work in order to ensure that our staff remain fresh, energetic and maintain a well balanced lifestyle of their own.

The majority of our staff members do come from helping professions and are experienced in providing assistance to people with all sorts of needs. All of our staff are trained in first aid and C.P.R.; have provided a recent police clearance and are thoroughly screened to ensure their suitability for our service positions.

Our staff are provided with detailed information about the specifics of your needs and we maintain very close contact with them in order to ensure that you are getting the kind of attention and service you require. We invest in our staff and stake our reputation on the quality of service they provide.

Safety

As we have already stated, our staff are as important to us as are our clients and we go to great lengths to ensure the safety and well-being of everybody. In the event of bad weather, your outings may have to be rescheduled or alternate arrangements may have to be made. We don't allow our companions or chaperones to perform activities that may be detrimental to themselves hence we won't accompany people on activities or to destinations, that we feel may be dangerous.

Confidentiality and Discretion

All of our people are trained to use the utmost discretion in performing our services. We don't promote the fact that we are paid assistants or "watchers", we are simply your companions and helpers. We are an extension of your family when your family can't be there. Likewise, all of our staff have signed confidentiality agreements and are trained in all aspects of maintaining your privacy.
